Haaland hit a thrilling treble as City came from 2-0 down to beat Crystal Palace 4-2 at the weekend but he made sure it was an easier affair, scoring a perfect hat-trick with the left foot, right foot, and inside the head. 38 minutes.

The 22-year-old's nine goals in his first five Premier League appearances is a new competition record, surpassing the eight goals scored by both Mickey Quinn and City's all-time leading goalscorer Sergio Aguero.

Man City vs. Nottingham Forest as it happened

FULLTIME: To flow blasts a final shot for Forest, whose agony is over. The city was very good tonight and no shame in that for the Championship play-off winners. Guardiola's side has won four of the last five Premier Leagues; With Haaland now in their ranks, they are an absolutely terrifying proposition.

90th min+2: Awoni looks wide-eyed as Forest look for consolation.

90th minute + 1: Johnson gamely tries to beat Walker with a leg run and comes up short. Unsurprisingly, Haaland was announced as the man of the match at the stadium.

89th minute: It's been a tough night for Henderson, but it's a great save to deny De Bruyne after Mahrez and Alvarez released the midfielder.

87th minute: GOOOAAALLL!!!! Alvarez!!

Alas, Denis curled the free-kick into the wall, De Bruyne led City's counter-attack, Mahrez had a shot blocked, and Alvarez left-footed the rebound into the roof of the net.

86th minute: Gundogan's mistake on Colback and Forest has a free-kick in a good position. It's an enthusiastic finish to the competition from the audience.

84th minute: The Forest fans, who have taken it all in good spirits, are now taking their team into possession. It ended with Gundogan blocking a shot from substitute Comeback.

80th minute: City fans are chanting Mario Balotelli's name. It's safe to say that their latest striker might be a little more reliable than the beloved Italian.

75th minute: Highly-rated City youngster Rico Luiz runs out from right back. Stones make way and Walker moves in alongside Dias.

72nd minute: Williams looks half-goal for Forest but Gomez cleverly pinches the ball away from him.

71st minute: Mahrez through one-on-one and should score. Hand to Guardiola's head. Replays showed the winger was probably slightly offside from Gundogan's raking pass so it's less important than you might think.

68th minute: Haaland fails to finish off Mahrez's cross with his fourth ball. It would be the last act of the hat-trick hero, who exits to a rousing ovation. Kevin De Bruyne came to his side. poor forest Gomez is also in favor of Cancelo at left-back.

65th minute: GOOOAAALLL!!!! Alvarez!!!!!!

Knows well how many passes lead to that goal. It looked like City had the ball for about five minutes before Mahrez lobbed it and looked like he was going to lose it. But that created space for the Algerian winger to pass to Alvarez on the half volley and he took the opportunity to score his first Premier League goal.

60th minute: Palmer floats an inviting ball across goal from the left and it's mildly surprising that Haaland isn't particularly close to it. The city recycles the ball as they do and Silva bites Henderson's palm.

57th minute: Rodri and Foden are in to make way and can be rested for City's weekend trip to Villa Park. Taio Aouni and Emmanuel Denis came on to bolster the Forest attack.

53rd min: More absolutely fantastic news for the Forest defense as Mahrez and Palmer wait to come on for City.

50th minute: GOOOAAALLL!!!! CANCEL!!!!!!

Honestly, don't give him so much space, guys! Silva picks out his Portugal team-mate, who launches a dreamy strike into the top right from the edge of the box. A beautiful moment that highlights how ugly it can be for the forest.

46th minute: We're back. Cooper hurried Forrest back and sat down on the bench to compose himself. The capture of the city resumes and Gundogan jumps out of the target. Which, interestingly, is how they started the first half.

Halftime: Forest scamper, almost gleefully, into their half in attack, Lodi's deflected cross ends up in Ederson's gloves and the whistle goes. Haaland has just gone off looking like a lunatic who thinks there's more work to be done. Oops! Come back here in a while.

44th minute: Brilliant from Alvarez, who you feel the crowd really wants to get into the act. Some neat footwork engineered little space for the Argentine who struck a left-footed strike against the base of the post from 20 yards.

38th minute: GOOOAAALLL!!! Holland!!!

Honestly, mate, pull the reins. Hat-trick for Haaland, again with Foden. The England man nodded in one of Cancelo's crosses at the outside of Cancelo's feet after a corner was partially cleared. Stones took it back to the goalmouth and Haaland ended the bout of head tennis predictably.

35th minute: The visitors are scraping hard, but City have so much of the ball that when they don't have it their press is absolutely rapid. Then the ball was booted out on City Throw. Haaland looks to turn provider but Henderson deflects his low cross away from the waiting Alvarez.

32nd min: Phew, it's a thankless, hard slog for Forest. Cancelo drills in a low cross that is cleared.

30ith mn: City thinks it's 3-0 but Stones is offside when he taps down to Hull.
